On 9 November 2018, IsoMetrix sponsored the Institute of Risk Management South Africa’s annual award ceremony to celebrate and honour excellence within the risk management sector.
IsoMetrix was proud to be a finalist in the category “Risk Management System Providers”, and be represented by customers in the following categories as well:
Winner – Omnia Group in the IRMSA 2018 Industry Awards in the category: “Chemicals, Oil and Gas”.
IsoMetrix nominated Omnia Group for the company’s integration of risk management from an operational and business perspective. Part of this initiative included replacing outdated systems and spreadsheet-based risk management with an efficient, integrated risk management software solution, namely IsoMetrix.
This initiative was critical to understanding and managing risk from an integrated perspective to ensure controls are effectively identified, managed and assessed for effectiveness.
The project forms part of Omnia’s road map to implement a fully integrated Governance Risk and Compliance framework. This project has elevated the understanding of risk and the importance of understanding risk in the business context.
The initiative has had a positive impact on the efficiency and accuracy of Omnia’s risk management, particularly in HSE and Environmental Risk Management. As Risk managers are actively looking for various ways to enhance their decision-making abilities with real- and in-time risk analysis on opportunities. The initiative could serve as a great benchmark for the industry where risks could be managed and/or mitigated, and opportunities seized.
Omnia Holdings Limited is a diversified chemicals group with specialized services and solutions for the agriculture, mining and chemicals industries. Omnia had previously utilized various systems as well as manual Excel and paper-based systems for SHERQ management, which offered limited integration or visibility, and limited management functionality.

Finalist – Juan Harmse, Absa – Risk Manager of the Year
Jaun Harmse’s role at Absa is Head: Converged Incident Management and Engagement.
Jaun was nominated as Risk Manager of the year for his involvement in a number of projects across the Absa Group that aimed to achieve a truly integrated risk management approach for the group. He has already put the following in place, using the IsoMetrix Business Continuity Management Solution:
- Integrated risk dashboards for business unit Chief Operating Officers through the SMEs that he manages.
- Integrated Key Risk Indicator reporting for Resilience across the people, technology, supplier and premises domains.
- An integrated approach with the Operational Risk Management team for Risk and Control Self Assessments.
- A central methodology for performing business impact assessments that is not only used by the Resilience community within the bank, but throughout the Operational Risk Management journey of the business units. Converged Security reporting which contains elements of physical security, resilience, cyber, fraud and forensic risk management to business unit Chief Operating Officers.
Finalist – Gloria Lekalakala, De Beers – Risk Manager of the Year
Gloria Lekalakala, Principal: Risk and Change Management, changed the way De Beers assesses risk within the organization by incorporating different aspects of risk within the operational processes. She was nominated by IsoMetrix for her dedicated approach to risk management.
Gloria takes on a lot of duties to ensure that she transfers the knowledge to others. She is open and honest when it comes to mentoring other stakeholders. She is always willing to assist by sharing her experience and how to implement and overcome risk.
Gloria’s everyday work is Risk, she will always look for ways and means to assess and guide others to be safe and risk free.
Finalist – Kavita Pema, Omnia – Risk Manager of the Year
Kavita Pema, Group Executive: Sustainability at Omnia Holdings, is an Environmental Specialist with extensive experience in environmental management and project management. Extensive practical experience in integrated environmental management, sustainability reporting, ESG reporting, institutional development as well as training and capacity building.
She led the development and execution of a broad-based, company-wide strategic sustainability initiative, integrating sustainability throughout the company. Kavita ensures that the company’s sustainability effort enhances business performance and supports the long-term interests of the company.
She was nominated by IsoMetrix for her strategic coordination of safety, health, environment, risk and quality for the Omnia Group within the sustainability and business integration context.
