Managing stakeholder engagement in Zimbabwe

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (EWZ) is the largest mobile network operator in Zimbabwe by market share. Stakeholder engagements are a key factor in the company’s success. Econet initially sought a solution to help manage their stakeholder engagement process, in alignment with AA1000. Once aware of the broader functionality available in IsoMetrix, the company decided to extend the project to encompass several other disciplines within Governance Risk and Compliance.

Why Econet chose IsoMetrix

Established in 1993, EWZ is the largest Mobile Network Operator in Zimbabwe, with more than 8.4 million subscribers.

EWZ needed to implement a Stakeholder Engagement System to ensure that stakeholder relationships are well managed. According to Florence Chimbetete, Safety, Health and Environmental Manager at Econet, the telecoms company sought proposals from nine potential suppliers. She explains, “We evaluated each supplier based on how well the technology matched our requirements, the qualifications and experience of the vendor and the total cost of solution implementation.” IsoMetrix was selected as the preferred supplier not only because it was able to closely match the stakeholder engagement requirements, but because it offered a far broader range of solutions which would enable EWZ to implement an integrated GRC solution as opposed to a standalone point solution.

Challenges during implementation

Chimbetete explains that the project implementation presented some problems because the business had limited licenses due to cost constraints. As a result, system use is confined to departmental representatives.

By using IsoMetrix, Econet was able to develop a comprehensive a central register of key stakeholders, and easily classify and categorize these stakeholders within the system to aid engagement processes and track progress. “The software also assists in monitoring and tracking media articles impacting the business,” says Chimbetete.

“The thing I like most about IsoMetrix is the comprehensive and configurable dashboards,” says Chimbetete. The dashboards allow for efficient monitoring and tracking of activities and provide a bird’s eye view of the business. “The dashboards are very informative and simple to comprehend. It is a highly effective tool for action monitoring and tracking,” she says.
